Aeroscout Predicted Our Refrigerator Failure!

Recently at iLand6, we replaced an office refrigerator that had been in use for several decades. The trigger for the replacement was actually AeroScout’s temperature monitoring solution, one of the products we distribute.

As part of our internal product testing, we had placed one AeroScout temperature monitoring tag in each of the office refrigerator and freezer compartments. This system performs automated temperature checks 24/7, and if an abnormal temperature rise is detected, the tag sends an alert notification to PCs and smartphones, allowing us to quickly detect any malfunctions.

■ Temperature Trend of the Old Freezer (See Graph Above)

The freezer temperature was fluctuating around 0°C.
Once it began consistently rising above 0°C, we decided it was time to replace the refrigerator.

■ Temperature Trend of the New Freezer (See Graph Above)

The freezer temperature remains stable around -20°C.
The periodic wave patterns in the graph reflect temperature changes caused by the compressor turning ON and OFF.
You can also see brief temperature spikes when the freezer door is opened.

Additionally, some AeroScout products are equipped with a reporting feature.

By analyzing the data, users can determine whether a temperature increase was caused by equipment malfunction, frequent door opening/closing, or the door being left open for an extended period.

■ Temperature History Report (Old Refrigerator) – August 2020

Significant temperature fluctuations were observed due to the compressor’s ON/OFF cycles.
When the compressor was ON, the temperature dropped to -17.5°C, but when it turned OFF, the temperature rose to nearly -5°C.
This marked the beginning of visible signs of deterioration.

※Although we tend to assume that refrigerator and freezer temperatures remain constant,
continuous monitoring reveals that temperatures actually fluctuate to this extent.

Watch Out for Food Poisoning This Season!

Thanks to temperature monitoring with AeroScout, we were able to replace our refrigerator before it completely broke down.

It was a strong reminder of just how important predictive maintenance can be!

We’ve also made sure to install a temperature monitoring tag in our new refrigerator!
